The Most Insane Things Politicians Have Said About Rape and Abortion

It’s hard to pic a winner out of this bunch of misogynistic self-entitled utter scraps of humanity. Just when you thought it was safe to leave the house and walk down the street without being sexually harassed (it isn’t) then along comes a bunch of massive dickheads (overwhelmingly over-privileged white males) to tell teh Ladeez what can and cannot be done with their bodies and why they should STFU.

And please enjoy the plethora of rape memes the internet provides – for Free!

I am of the firm opinion that until we are all able to legislate on what men can and cannot do with their penises, then they should fuck the fuck off out of these issues and what us girls can do/endure with our vaginas and wombs and other lady-bits. To force a woman who has been raped (even if it is “legitimate rape” ???????) to carry a resultant child full-term goes way, way past offensive, takes a right turn at sexist, drives down highway oppression, hangs out a bit at misogyny and the rolls up at WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS??

I’m trying to find words on this bunch of particular women-hating fucktards who (mostly) use religion to fuck over humans with a different set of chromosomes but that’s a lexicon that needs to be invented.

I’d bet my life that if men were raped on the scale of women and fell pregnant as a result of that horrific experience OR if they became pregnant accidentally, then these utter muppets with their abhorrent views would be few and far between. Do they realise that women, whether pregnant by choice or not, must endure nine months of being up the duff – from morning sickness, piles, swollen ankles, terrible life-threatening conditions that reduce them to bedrest, a loss of earnings, a loss of all that was theirs, the trauma of birth (just cos we’re in the 21st century in a western country does not mean every birth goes off spectacularly without any problems) labour for hours or days on end, choosing whether to be “cut by a doctor” or “ripping naturally” and yes, I mean the vagina.

All of this is hard enough if you want it, let alone if you don’t and then there is the horrific situation of having been raped and not only having to live with the physical, mental and terrible strains of hurt and violation but being forced to spend nine months being reminded, then giving birth to what happened. There are women who do this, absolutely, but being forced to do it? Jesus wept.

Religion has an unfortunate continuing history of subjugating women. More ancient beliefs valued women, because they gave birth to new life. People prayed to the Goddess because she was the bringer of life, the Spring, the harvest, all things. Quite a pretty awesome and sensible deity to believe in, one would think. In Gaelic countries the Beltane “fire festival” the revered May Queen (Goddess) mates with the ‘young stag’ to bring new life and seasons into the world and help all the people live and prosper and have a good harvest. Seems a bit more logical that the later doctrines of the church whereby women were the source of all evil – lustful, vengeful creatures who tempted men to terrible abuse by basically just existing. Makes sense.

While we have moved more towards “there are men, there are women – let’s rule the world together cos we’re all human beings”, the undoing of thousands of years of patriarchy is bullshit and taking one hell of a time. Pagan beliefs that were much more fair were vanquished much more quickly. And let’s face it – you are strong but We Give Birth to Babies! To You! To All New Life! Think we have a bit more respect please.

What seems to be lacking in all of this is EMPATHY (surely a Christian value, like forgiveness and love and tolerance etc). I’m not blaming religion per se (ok, yes I am) but I’m more blaming the utter fuckers who use it to control women’s lives and choices. You’re talking about picking apart and selectively choosing bits of a very old book that says a talking snake gave the only woman and apple and then…holy shit. Are you SERIOUS? Parting seas, living in a whale etc etc. Jesus Wept.

So you learn to pick and choose which bits fit your personal preference, fucking go for it. If you’re not a Total Dick, maybe read Khalil Gibran’s works (also very old, but terribly nice to all humans and quite lovely) or the Rubyiat of Omar Khyam. Oh wait… they sound a bit….Islamic, don’t they? Don’t fear, they’re actually very beautiful and sensible and don’t advocate fucking over other people based on gender, race etc…. Pleasant.

Anyway, that’s a massive segue into the other bit. Western pollies who are total Aresholes and basically either hate women, seek to subjugate them or whose first thought in the morning is “make me a fucking sandwich, bitch, because that’s all you’re good for apart from a bit of fucking and breeding” under the guise of a set of sanctioned and acknowledged tax-free “beliefs”. Women are people too. Stop putting you cocks and your voices where they don’t belong and we’ll all be just fine.

*Note: I did spend an extraordinary amount of time compiling the following. I have made every attempt to verify the comments below, using trusted sources rather than interest groups and (god help me) Wikipedia. While some may have a word or two out of place, the essence of the comment and message remains.

Oh maaaan, do we have far to go when these people are the ones that are in charge of our countries. If you needed proof sexism and misogyny is alive and well – here’s it (some are comments from a few years’ past but you get the gist. Most are 2013-2014)

“I think many rapists and particularly paedophiles use abortion as a defence, they use it as a way to destroy the evidence.” Bernie Finn (AUS)

“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing (pregnancy) down.” Todd Akin (US)

“The problem with the Australian practice of abortion is that an objectively grave matter has been reduced to a question of the mother’s convenience.” Tony Abbott (AUS)

“Some girls, they rape so easy.” Roger Rivard (US)

“If a woman has (the right to abortion), why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman? At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t (in most cases) result in anyone’s death.” Lawrence Lockman (US)

“(Abortion) is an abhorrent form of birth control.” “the rights culture that’s happening in this country….we need to make assessments of whose rights should prevail…the one single right is the right to life.” Cory Bernardi (AUS)

“On the rape thing, it’s like, how does putting more violence onto a woman’s body and taking the life of an innocent child that’s a consequence of this crime — how does that make it better? You know what I mean?” John Koster (US)

“I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage…” Chuck Winder (US)

“I believe and I think the right approach is to accept this horribly created — in the sense of rape — but nevertheless a gift in a very broken way, the gift of human life, and accept what God has given to you.” Rick Santorum (US)

The “jeans defense” – a woman canot be raped if she is wearing jeans because the would have to help her attacker take them off. Italy – lawmakers.

Clarke: Well, I must stop you repeating this total nonsense…assuming you and I are talking about rape in the ordinary conversational sense. Some man has forcefully, with a bit of violence.
Derbyshire: Rape is rape, with respect.
Clarke: No it’s not, and if an 18-year-old has sex with a 15-year-old and she’s perfectly willing, that is rape. That’s ’cause she’s underage, can’t consent. Anybody has sex with a 15-year-old, it’s rape. So what you and I are talking about, we’re talking about a man forcibly having sex with a woman and she doesn’t want to. That is rape. Serious crime, of course it’s a serious crime. And I’m very glad that people do now got to the police and report it. There used to be a taboo against it, in a crazy way. Ken Clarke (UK)

“Some people believe that when you go to bed with somebody, take off your clothes, and have sex with them and then fall asleep, you’re already in the sex game with them. “It might be really bad manners not to have tapped her on the shoulder and said, ‘do you mind if I do it again?’ “It might be really sordid and bad sexual etiquette, but whatever else it is, it is not rape or you bankrupt the term rape of all meaning.” George Galloway (UK)

“I respectfully put it to church leaders that if, on a per capita basis, Catholics devoted as much moral energy to these 100,000 extinguished lives as we do to the far smaller number of children in detention, if senior Catholics were as morally indignant about the unambiguous moral tragedy of abortion as we are about the less clear-cut question of immigration detention, then there would be change.

If, as a society, we put as much interest in discouraging premature sexual activity as we do in discouraging drink-driving or cigarette-smoking; if, as a society, we re-established adoption as an alternative to abortion or sole parenthood; if, as a society, we cherished and celebrated motherhood as much as we cherish and celebrate success in the workplace, there would be far fewer abortions and we would be a happier and better society.
It seems to me that the greatest gift that any human being can give to another is the gift of life and that having children is the ultimate vote of confidence in the future.

How those of us who believe that Jesus came that we should have life and have it to the full can go through a single day without being haunted by the missing millions of Australians is beyond me.

I think there is a call there for all of us to do what we can to try to tackle that issue.

The best that could possibly be said by anyone for abortion is that it might be a necessary evil, but it is an evil that is now taken for granted in our society in a way that not even the most convinced feminist could have imagined possible 35 years ago.” Tony Abbott (AUS)

On March 3 this year Senator (John) Madigan was asked by ABC Radio National’s Jonathan Green on Sunday Extra, whether – if he found himself holding the balance of power in an Abbott government – he would use that position to further restrict abortion.
“Yes,” he said. “Unashamedly so.” John Madigan (AUS)

“Abortion is the easy way out. It’s hardly surprising that people should choose the most convenient exit from awkward situations.” Tony Abbott (AUS)

“Why isn’t the fact that 100,000 women choose to end their pregnancies regarded as a national tragedy approaching the scale, say, of Aboriginal life expectancy being 20 years less than that of the general community?” Tony Abbott (AUS)

“The problem with the Australian practice of abortion is that an objectively grave matter has been reduced to a question of the mother’s convenience.” Tony Abbott (AUS)

“In this day and age, no, I don’t think there is any acceptable reason for having an abortion. “In years gone by when they needed to kill the baby to save the mother then it might have been acceptable, but in today’s world I think that’s a very 1950s argument.” Bernie Finn (AUS)

“I would like it to be banned, but that is like raising a red flag to a bull. “I would like to see abortion laws refined so either women will be shown an ultrasound of their foetus before the procedure, as they do in some parts of America, or they have to see a counsellor once they make the decision.” Fred Nile (AUS)
